The frequency of elections in INDIA

India is a democratic republic and her government is run by the elected representatives of the people.so the constitution of the country has laid down that the elections be held after every five years. This is for the parliament which forms the central government. But elections are also held for state assemblies, corporations, municipal boards.,district boards and various other local bodies like gram sabhas and gram panchayats.During the elections, the government work almost to a standstill.Military and para military forces are deployed at several places in the country to maintain peace and law and order,in spite of these arrangements violence on a large scale, widespread rigging and booth capturing are distinctive features of these elections. One election in five years alone costs more than 5000 crore of rupees which is a stupendous amount.
